About us

Maharashtra Mandal Cambridgeshire (MMC) is the first UK government-registered community organisation dedicated to serving the growing Maharashtrian community in Cambridgeshire.

Founded by and for individuals and families who cherish Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, MMC is a non-profit community interest group driven by a mission to preserve, promote, and evolve Maharashtrian culture, language, and traditions within the UK. Inspired by the legacy of Maharashtra Mandals worldwide, MMC aims to be a cultural anchor and support system for the diaspora in this region.

Our vision

To build a strong, inclusive, and modern Maharashtrian community in Cambridgeshire — one that proudly celebrates its roots while confidently embracing the future.

What We Do

MMC is committed to shaping a connected and vibrant community through a wide range of cultural, educational, wellness, and social initiatives. We aim to:

• Preserve and promote Maharashtrian culture by celebrating festivals such as Ganeshotsav, Diwali, Holi, Gudi Padwa, and Makar Sankranti, and showcasing traditional music, dance, and arts.
• Support the next generation through:
  • Sanskar Varg (value-based education)
  • Marathi Language School
  • Traditional sports such as Kho Kho and Kabaddi
  • Folk music training including Dhol-Tasha and Powade singing
• Encourage creativity and cultural connection in children through activities like storytelling, art competitions, bhajan/kirtan sessions, and Marathi poem readings.
• Promote wellness and community bonding with Walking Clubs, Virtual Waari, sports clubs (Badminton, Carrom), and outdoor fitness initiatives.
• Foster intellectual and professional growth through lecture series (Vyakhyan Mala), podcasts featuring inspiring community stories, and workshops on literature, finance, history, and science.
• Help new families and students settle in Cambridgeshire by offering mentorship, guidance, welfare support, and access to community networks.
• Build a welcoming platform for sharing opportunities, nurturing talent, and encouraging community participation across generations.
